At first glance, the new Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver series

A new look, a new movement, more refined details and interchangeable straps.

In Royal Oak Offshore Diving, the first title is Royal Oak Offshore Diving. Since its debut in 2005, it has appeared in a variety of vibrant dial colors, innovative, and bold materials. , Such as forged carbon or ceramics. But today marks an important step in the history of AP diving watches, the update of classic stainless steel models. New appearance, new self-made automatic movement, more refined dial details and DIY replaceable strap, but still maintain the spirit of luxury and solidity. This is our first look at the 2021 Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver series.

The first generation of stainless steel Royal Oak offshore divers (ref. 15703ST) appeared in 2010, followed by the current generation of ROO divers in 2015, ref. 15710ST, with a transparent bottom cover and small visual updates. Nevertheless, we are actually talking about the same watch since its launch, which is equipped with a 42mm steel case, Méga Tapisserie dial, internal rotating bezel, rubber strap and internal 3120 automatic winding movement. Therefore, this 2021 version marks the first complete update of this watch… Well, relatively speaking, it seems that many aspects have been updated. We are talking about evolution, not revolution.

For our first contact with this new Royal Oak Offshore Diver series, we will not go into all the details (we will discuss this in a more in-depth article later), but this is what you need to know. The case of this new ROO Diver retains its proportions, with a diameter of 42 mm, a height of 14.1 mm, and a water resistance of 300 meters. The overall shape is the same as the previous version, but some details have been improved-a more refined brushed surface and some treatment of polished accents make this watch more attractive. ROO Diver still has two screw-in crowns, one for the movement and the other for driving the internal rotating bezel. However, these are now made of ceramic rather than covered with rubber to improve durability.

The watch also retains its innovative material combination, a stainless steel octagonal bezel and a rubber gasket clearly visible below it, which is blue or green depending on the model. The strap still uses rubber, adopts a new overall design, and is still closed by a large steel pin buckle. The real novelty here is the integrated interchangeable system with a quick release button on the back of the strap. We tested it and the system is very easy to use, very clear and the quality is pleasing. All three new versions of ROO Diver are equipped with an additional rubber strap. This new series introduces 3 models with an unprecedented color scheme:

15720ST.OO.A052CA.01 – Khaki green dial with rose gold hands/scales, beige and black diving scales, black ceramic crown with gold decoration, green rubber strap, additional black rubber strap

15720ST.OO.A027CA.01-Navy blue dial with platinum hands/index, black and white diving scale, black ceramic crown, blue rubber strap, additional black rubber strap
15720ST.OO.A009CA.01-gray dial, white gold hands/index, blue and white diving scales, gray ceramic crown, gray rubber strap, additional blue rubber strap

While retaining the Mega Tapisserie pattern as a logo, the dials of these new Royal Oak Offshore Diver watches have also been updated. First, the outer minute track is smaller. Then, the marker has been completely redesigned, shorter but bolder, and completed in two lengths-a quarter hour separated from 5 minute increments. You will notice that the position of the date that is still under the magnifying glass is also different. In addition, the inner rotating bezel has a contrasting 0-15 minute zone to improve readability. Finally, these three models also use a larger application gold AP logo, replacing the traditional long signature.

Last but not least, the main evolution has to do with the movement, because in 2021 Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver is equipped with the brand’s new automatic internal movement. The 4308 movement uses the same basic structure as the movement launched on Code 11.59, and is a modern engine focused on precision and reliability. It beats at a frequency of 4 Hz and has a power reserve of 60 hours. The sapphire crystal table mirror exhibits exquisite decoration, with Geneva stripes, round grains, beveled edges and the new black 22-carat pink gold oscillating weight.
